Frequently Asked Questions

Do you sell retail as well as wholesale landscape supplies?
Yes! We provide soil, compost, mulch, stone, bulk and bagged salt, hardscape supplies, lighting, pond supplies and more to a wide variety of customers, ranging from Honeywell International and Syracuse University to landscape contractors and individual DIY homeowners.
Stop by for helpful advice on landscape materials and installation techniques, or take a stroll through our ever-growing display areas and supply yard for additional ideas.
Do you offer bulk pricing and delivery services?
Yes, we deliver year-round. Bulk pricing is available for almost all products such as mulch, stone, gravel and soils. Deliveries range from local small truck and 40-100 cu. yard tractor trailer loads, including split deliveries, to any requested distance. (In fact, we recently delivered a large truckload of select boulders to NYC).
Our delivery trucks (with equipment on a trailer) can deliver pallets, boulders or bagged products directly to your home or job site.
How do I figure out how much product I need?

First, you want to figure out how many cubic yards of product you will need for your space. We like the Construction Calculator at Calculator Soup.  For mulch, you’ll ideally want a total depth of 3-4” (so you may only need to plan for 1-2” if you are just freshening it up). For stone, you’ll want a depth of 2-3” for smaller stones. For larger stones or cobbles, add at least an inch to the average diameter of the stone to get full coverage. We sell mulch and soil products by the cubic yard. Stone products are sold by the ton. Once you know how many cubic yards you need, we can help you convert that to tons based on the average density of the specific product.

Can you help me figure out how much product I need?

Yes! We can offer help and guidance but, at the end of the day, you are responsible for making sure your measurements are correct. Incorrect or lacking measurements will lead to the wrong amount of product being ordered and delivered. If you stop in or call to order, please have accurate measurements ready so that we can best assist you in getting the right amount of product.

Can I bring trash cans or other bins to fill with mulch or stone?

If you only need a small quantity of mulch, soil, stone, or compost we can only fill 5-gallon buckets. You may bring your own 5-gallon buckets or we offer them for purchase. We cannot fill trash cans, recycle bins, 2-gallon buckets, etc. Please also note that we charge a bucket loading fee, per bucket, and we will fill a maximum of 4 buckets per customer per day.

Can I get more than one product delivered at the same time?

Yes! One of our delivery trucks can accommodate 2 different products. We can deliver up to 9 yards or 4 tons of product in each of the 2 sections. Please note, there is a $10 split-load fee added onto the normal delivery fee for more than one product.

How does the split truck work?

Our split truck is divided into 2 sections, front and back, each with their own gate. In general, we will dump the heaviest product first and then dump the second product.

How much room do the delivery trucks need to dump?

Our trucks need 10-12 feet of clearance on the ground and 20 feet of clearance vertically to dump. Please be mindful if you have low-hanging branches or power lines when directing us on where to dump your products.

Can you bring the materials right to my garden beds or project area?

In general, we prefer to dump in the driveway or from a paved or stone surface. Driving over a lawn can be difficult and cause significant damage. Also, in rare occasions, our trucks can get stuck and will have to be towed. For this reason, if you need your products dumped in a site other than your driveway, and we feel it is possible to do so, you will need to be on site to sign a waiver. Any off driveway delivery is solely at the discretion of the truck driver.

Can you deliver products on pallets?

Yes, we can deliver any of the palletized products that we sell. We can also deliver boulders. These deliveries require a palletized product delivery fee in addition to the regular delivery fee. This type of delivery starts at $220 + tax, and increases in price based on location. When we deliver palletized products, we place them on a flat-bed trailer and bring a Dingo or Skid steer along to unload your pallets in your preferred location. We can fit up to 6 pallets + a piece of equipment or up to 10 if you have equipment on site!

How soon can you deliver once I place my order?

We deliver Monday-Friday, spring through fall, generally with a few Saturdays in our busiest season. Often, we can offer next business day delivery of your products. During our busiest months (May and June), you may need to order 2-3 days ahead of when you would like to receive your products.

Can I request a specific time of day for my products to be delivered?

We cannot guarantee a specific time of day for delivery. Our delivery schedules are set the evening prior and factor in which products are being delivered, the locations of the deliveries for the day, staffing, and weather. You may call first thing on the morning of your delivery to get an estimated delivery window.

Do I have to be home when my products are delivered?

You do not have to be home when your products are delivered. Most of our deliveries are paid for over the phone and detailed notes on where you would like your products dumped are recorded on the delivery ticket.

What forms of payment do you accept?

We accept all major credit cards and cash. Personal checks must be approved ahead of time. Please note, your products must be paid for prior to being delivered. You do have the option of giving the driver cash, but your product will not be dumped until you have paid in full.

Can I come in and just buy one stone?

Yup!  We have a large selection of all types, sizes and colors of decorative stones and boulders – all sold by the pound.  Mix and match, lay out a pattern, or maybe even find something you weren’t even looking for!

Do you provide any winter services or products?

Yes, we do primarily residential plowing along with some select commercial properties. Please contact us to see if we’re working in your area.

Green Scapes is one of the largest suppliers of bulk treated rock salt in CNY. We also offer a full line of bagged and palleted ice melt products.

Do you accept returns?

No.

Do you accept yard waste/clippings/brush at your facility?

No.

Do you carry plants or trees?

We do not carry plants or trees. If you see plants or trees at our location, they are those we are using on jobs where we are installing landscapes and are not for sale.

What are your company’s professional design qualifications?

It’s important to work with qualified, experienced landscape design professionals who understand how to listen to clients’ needs and get things built correctly. Our landscape design team has over 110 years of combined experience creating unique, beautiful and functional outdoor living spaces. Please also check out the About page for more information. Our 3 designers/ supervisors all have extensive field and construction experience, along with landscape-related college degrees, Cobleskill and ESF, with one being a senior NYS certified nursery/ landscape professional and one a registered landscape architect.

Our operations manager also has a BLA from ESF, along with his own extensive field and construction experience. During a typical season we have two hardscape crews, one landscape crew and one pondscape/ landscape crew, with the ability to join forces, when necessary, on larger projects.

Do you offer design services even if I want to do my project myself?

Yes, we can work with you to create a design with specs that you or your own contractor can use. Our service division will speak to you about your project and give you a quote on what a finished design might cost. Designs in digital and/or print format will not be given until they are paid for, in full.

Do you work with sub-contractors?

We have a small group of sub-contractors we bring in to help on certain aspects of our projects, such as electric and gas lines. We also offer to act as a general contractor on larger projects, such as pool installations, managing all aspects of the project to keep everyone efficient and on the same page for an outstanding final outcome.
